After focussing on the mass electric vehicle (EV) market, JSW MG Motor India will introduce premium electric models like the M9 MPV and the Cyberster roadster, with their prices set to be revealed in less than a month from now.
JSW MG will first announce the price of the M9 this month, followed by that of the Cyberster. Both electric models will be sold via the company's new MG Select dealerships.
Initially, there will be 14 MG Select dealerships across 13 cities -- Gurgaon, Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Ahmedabad, Surat, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kochi.
A source told Moneycontrol that JSW MG is looking to expand the network depending on the kind of demand the two new models garner. "This is just the first phase, and we are preparing to add more dealer partners going forward," the source said.
While the M9 will arrive in India in a completely knocked-down (CKD) form and assembled at JSW MG's Halol plant in Gujarat, the Cyberster will take the completely built-up (CBU) route. JSW MG has made minor changes to the suspension and ground clearance of the M9 to suit the Indian road conditions.
The M9 gets a 245 PS/350 Nm motor mated to a 90 kWh battery. On the other hand, the Cyberster uses a 510 PS/725 Nm motor clubbed with a 77 kWh battery. JSW MG is looking to introduce the M9 with a range of over 500 km on a single full charge, while the Cyberster is likely to be in the 400 km-500 km bracket.
The company currently offers electric models like the ZS EV, Comet EV and Windsor EV. It was an early mover in the country's nascent electric car market, entering the space in the calendar year (CY) 2020.
The ZS EV, which was the company's second car for the Indian market after the Hector, was launched in CY20. Then came the Comet EV in CY23, followed by the Windsor EV in CY24. The Windsor EV has been the real game changer for the company, clocking volumes of nearly 30,000 units since its introduction in September till now.
JSW MG's EV retail sales jumped a handsome 158.17% year-on-year (y-o-y) at 30,162 units in FY25 from 11,683 units in FY24, as per data from the industry body Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
