Although Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) had announced that the official bookings for the new Tata Sierra would open on December 15, select dealerships of the company have started accepting pre-bookings for a token amount of Rs 21,000.
Currently, pre-bookings for the Sierra can also be made via Tata's official website, but without the need to pay any pre-booking amount. You only need to share information such as your name, mobile number, email (optional), pincode (optional), powertrain choice, city and state.
Once you share these details, you will be contacted by a Tata representative who will connect you with your nearest Tata dealership.
The Sierra is available in seven trims -- Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished and Accomplished+. While prices for Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure and Adventure+ trims range from Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom), prices for Accomplished and Accomplished+ trims are awaited. Deliveries of the SUV begin on January 15.
The Sierra is easily among the most handsome SUVs to arrive this year. It looks stylish, sporty and butch from every angle. The upright front fascia gives it a solid character, the side profile looks muscular, and the rear appears clean and modern. The 19-inch alloys and well-integrated black cladding enhance its stance.
Lighting has been executed very well. A single coast-to-coast LED DRL dominates the front, with slim LED headlamps neatly tucked in. The rear also gets a full-width light bar.
Inside the cabin, the three-screen setup (all Samsung OLED) with a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 12.3-inch touch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch touch co-driver display, immediately grabs attention. The 360-degree camera output could have been clearer, an area where the Koreans still lead. The touch-based climate control and steering wheel come from the Harrier and the Safari. They look premium, though physical buttons would have made on-the-go adjustments easier.
The soundbar on the dashboard adds a unique touch, and the JBL Black 12-speaker system with Dolby Atmos delivers one of the best audio experiences in the segment. Bells and whistles include a large panoramic sunroof, Level 2+ ADAS with 22 functions and several convenience features.
While the front seats are wide and supportive, the second row offers ample legroom, knee room and headroom. Boot capacity stands at 622 litres (around 450 litres till the parcel tray). With the rear seats folded, it expands to 1,257 litres. The spare wheel sits under the vehicle, freeing up interior space. Cabin ergonomics are sound, and the triple-screen layout does not distract as the screens sit flush within the dashboard. Outside visibility is well managed.
The Sierra offers three engines -- a new 1.5-litre Hyperion T-GDi petrol (160PS/255Nm) with a 6-speed torque converter automatic, a 1.5-litre Revotron NA petrol (106PS/145Nm) with 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCA, and a 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel (118PS, 260/280Nm) with 6-speed MT and 6-speed torque converter automatic. There are drive modes like City and Sport, and terrain modes like Normal, Wet and Rough.
The Tata Sierra has entered a crowded segment, which already includes models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Mahindra Thar Roxx, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor.
