Ashok Leyland inaugurates green mobility-focussed CV plant in Lucknow

Ashok Leyland's Lucknow facility will have an annual production capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles.

Ashok Leyland today inaugurated its new integrated commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturing plant in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, marking a key step in the company's push towards green mobility and electric vehicles (EVs). The greenfield facility has been set up at the Sarojini Nagar Industrial Area near Lucknow airport and is spread across more than 70 acres.

The plant was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Ashok Leyland said the Lucknow facility is its most advanced and sustainable plant globally. The unit has been designed with a primary focus on the production of EVs and will have an annual production capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles. A large share of the workforce has been recruited locally from Uttar Pradesh, with a significant percentage of women employees.

The company highlighted that the plant aligns with its long-term clean mobility strategy and the growing adoption of EVs in Uttar Pradesh. The facility is expected to play a role in strengthening the company's electric bus and electric CV manufacturing footprint.

Designed as a green manufacturing facility, the Lucknow plant features rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient LED lighting, battery-operated in-plant logistics, positive water balance initiatives, and a zero-discharge system, underlining Ashok Leyland's focus on sustainable manufacturing practices.
