Canning (WB), Dec 14 (PTI) At least ten people died and several others were taken ill today after drinking toxic illicit liquor at Mograhat in South 24-Parganas district. Enraged over the incident, locals smashed the liquor dens operating in the area. "Ten residents of Sangrampur village died early in the morning after drinking the toxic liquor at night from four liquor joints. The sick people have been admitted to a local hospital," Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Narayan Meena said. The police said the 10 villagers, who were suffering from severe stomach ache, vomiting and loose motion, died hours after drinking the toxic brew. Five people have been admitted to the nearby Diamond Harbour Hospital.
