Google may have just given a hint to what O stands for in Android O

Since Google revealed that its next version will be named Android O the internet has been guessing it to be Oreo or Oatmeal

For months, Google has had the entire tech community buzzing over the name of its next version of mobile operating system Android. The operating system has been known as Android O until now but what does this O stand for?

The tech giant has finally indicated of what could be the name of the new version. In its fourth and final Developer Preview version of the yet-to-be-launched Android, the placeholder Easter egg image has been replaced by a black Octopus.

Generally, before naming an Android version officially, Google keeps the Easter egg image. The appearance of an Octopus has left people confused.

If the image is to go by then this will be a major breakaway for Android as Google generally names its Android versions after sweets and candies.

Since Google revealed that its next version will be named Android O the internet has been guessing it to be Oreo or Oatmeal.

Now, after the appearance of an Octopus, tech geeks and others believe that the new version will be named Android 8.0 Octopus.

Here’s a look at some of the major changes in the Android O Developer Preview: -

According to a report by Android Authority, the new Android O will provide greater control over a website’s notifications in the Chrome app. The new version of Chrome in Android O will also give websites their own notification channels.

As per a report in IBTimes, for the Google Pixel phone, a multicoloured G logo has replaced boot screen logo “owned by Android”.

A lot of interface changes have also been made by Google, some of these include visual repairs around the front screen, lock screen and notifications.

Lockscreen has a smaller clock now, the date is no longer capitalised, and the battery in the status bar gets bolder while the carrier info and time are placed with a little more space from side-to-side.

Another new feature is the icon-shape option that allows a user to change app icons into five different shapes, including round, square and teardrop.

Icon badging has been eliminated from the screen settings and now it has been shifted to Notifications Dots toggle in the Notifications settings menu.

Android 8.0 Octopus, still, brings a tonne of new features and exciting changes to look forward to in the final roll-out.
