The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday expelled Rajya Sabha MP and noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani. The decision was taken by the opposition party's president Rajnath Singh.
Jethmalani has been vocally opposed of certain BJP decisions. He has been expelled from the primary membership of the party for six years. He will be an independent Rajya Sabha member from now.
Jethmalani had earlier asked the BJP's top leadership in Parliament to take a call on his suspension. He also accused the party brass of being soft on the UPA. Jethmalani, who had also written a letter to Rajnath Singh, was suspended from the party for his attack on Nitin Gadkari earlier in 2012.
Jethmalani's tirade against the party leadership started with he and his son Mahesh seeking party president Nitin Gadkari's resignation over the Purti controversy.
Jethmalani then went on to question the two leaders of opposition Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley who wanted the appointment of the new CBI director be kept in abeyance in the wake of the Lokpal recommendations by the Rajya Sabha select committee
