FM asks Vodafone to give in writing views on tax case
The Indian tax authorities and Vodafone are locked in a Rs 11,000 crore dispute over Vodafone‘s purchase of Hutchison Essar Telecom services in April 2007.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram has asked UK-based global telecom services major Vodafone to give in writing its views on the ongoing tax dispute, reports CNBC-TV18’s Aakansha Sethi, quoting sources.
The Indian tax authorities and Vodafone are locked in a Rs 11,000 crore dispute over Vodafone’s purchase of Hutchison Essar Telecom services in April 2007. Indian tax authorities claim since the transaction involved purchase of assets of an Indian Company, it was liable to be taxed in India.Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao had met the Finance Minister last week. Vodafone’s stand is that the conciliation should not be under Indian law.
