The West Bengal government tonight identified a token 11.5 acres out of the 997.97 acres land acquired for the abandoned Tata Motors' Nano project, for return tomorrow to 12 farmers who had unwillingly parted with their land.
Hooghly District Magistrate Sripriya Rangarjan said the land distribution process is "underway". School Education Minister Rabindranath Bhattacharjee and Becharam Manna, members of Singur high power committee set up by the state government to distribute land to unwilling farmers, said that the land was "identified by 12 unwilling farmers in the presence of witnesses."
"The land deeds will be given tomorrow," Bhattacharjee and Manna said.
Earlier, Manna had said the land had been returned to the unwilling landowners. The unwilling farmers belong to Gopalnagar and Kolaypara, Manik Das, a zilla parishad member from Beraberi, said.
Manna, Bhattacharjee and Trinamool Congress MP Ratna Denag had held a meeting here on the issue earlier in the evening.
