FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever (HUL) today said it has tied up with Bharti Retail to launch a joint initiative to promote plastic recycling among consumers in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The programme, called, 'Go Recycle', will run for three months in all 31 of Bharti Retail's Easy Day and Easy Day Market stores across the NCR.

"This is a first-of-its kind initiative in India and is targeted to help reduce packaging waste and also inform and educate consumers to practice responsible consumption," a joint statement issued by both companies said.

The programme will be promoted through in-store displays, leaflets and mailers. It aims to drive consumer participation through various incentive schemes, including discount coupons for buying HUL products at Easy Day stores in the region.

"One of our key endeavours as part of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan is to motivate consumers to take the small achievable actions that add up to a big difference and enable us all to live more sustainably," Hindustan Unilever
Limited CEO Nitin Paranjpe said.

Bharti Retail said the initiative is driven by its mission of being the 'Store of the Community'.

"The 'Go Recycle' initiative adds another feature to our sustainability effort," Bharti Retail Chief Operating Officer Andrew Levermore said.
