Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has welcomed the strengthening diplomatic and military engagement between Pakistan and Bangladesh, with its deputy chief Saifullah Kasuri praising what he termed renewed closeness between Islamabad and Dhaka, top intelligence sources said.
According to CNN-News18 report, Kasuri, a senior LeT operative designated by the United Nations and identified as the mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack, congratulated both countries on improving ties and described the formal start of trade between Pakistan and Bangladesh as commendable and highly appreciable.
Sources said the endorsement carries strategic significance. Kasuri portrayed the Pakistan–Bangladesh engagement as a “positive realignment for the Muslim world,” echoing LeT’s long-standing ideological narrative directed against India.
According to intelligence inputs, his remarks indicate that Pakistan-based terror groups view emerging regional diplomatic openings as potential operational opportunities, particularly to expand jihadist influence beyond Kashmir into wider South Asian alignments.
LeT is believed to maintain extensive logistical, recruitment and ideological networks across the region. Bangladesh has previously surfaced in terror-financing and transit probes linked to Pakistan-based extremist groups, heightening current concerns, sources added.
Officials said Kasuri’s reaction highlights how non-state jihadist actors closely monitor regional political shifts and attempt to influence — and at times shape — the calculations of governments and military establishments in Pakistan.
Recently, the LeT deputy chief publicly acknowledged the group’s links with the Pakistan Army, laying bare the nexus between the military and terror outfits that India has long alleged.
At a school event in Pakistan, Kasuri openly boasted about his ties with the Army, claiming it invited him to lead funeral prayers for soldiers and asserting that India feared his presence. “Pakistan’s Army invites me to lead funeral prayers. Do you know India is also scared of me?” he said in a viral video.
Counter-terror agencies assess that the statement signals an effort to widen the theatre of terrorist activity from Kashmir to sympathetic regional networks, making the evolving Pakistan–Bangladesh engagement a matter of heightened concern for Indian and international security agencies.
