US Central Command on Tuesday claimed that US forces have destroyed the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ command facilities as well as Iranian missile and drone launch sites, in the Middle Eastern war that broke out over the weekend.
In a post on X, Centcom said, “US forces have destroyed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command and control facilities, Iranian air defense capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields during sustained operations.”
“We will continue to take decisive action against imminent threats posed by the Iranian regime,” it added.
As Middle East tensions mount, the US Embassy in Riyadh was hit by Iranian drones, and US President Donald Trump vowed a robust response to Tehran for the assault.
“You (Iran) will soon find out Washington’s response to the attack on its embassy in Riyadh and to the killing of American soldiers,” Trump said in an interview with NewsNation.
“I don’t think deploying ground forces will be necessary in Iran,” the US President added.
Trump’s remarks came after the US Embassy in Riyadh was struck by Iranian drones. According to the US State Department, the Embassy in Riyadh was hit by two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Iran war could last weeks: Trump
Donald Trump said the initial plan for the war with Iran was expected to last “four to five weeks,” but stressed that the American military has the capacity to continue operations far beyond that timeframe.
Speaking from the White House on Monday, Trump defended his administration’s decision to join Israel in the conflict, claiming Iran posed “grave threats” to the US. He also reiterated his assertion that American strikes last June had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear programme.
The US and Israel have continued to pound Iran since killing its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday, while Tehran and its allies have hit back against Israel, neighbouring Gulf states, and targets critical to the world’s production of oil and natural gas.
