Indian-origin influencer Nancy Grewal stabbed 18 times in Canada, family alleges prior threats

Indian-origin social media influencer Nancy Grewal was stabbed to death in LaSalle town near Windsor in Canada on Tuesday evening, her mother has alleged. Grewal, who hailed from Narang village in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, was reportedly attacked outside a house by unidentified assailants.

According to her family, Grewal had travelled to LaSalle to visit a patient. As she stepped outside the residence in the evening, she was allegedly ambushed and fatally attacked.

Shinder Pal Grewal, Nancy’s mother, claimed the attackers stabbed her daughter 18 times in the stomach and alleged the killing was linked to an earlier dispute. She also alleged that her daughter’s tongue had been chopped off during the attack.

An old video of Nancy Grewal saying she no longer felt safe in her LaSalle home after an incident in November 2025 has resurfaced on social media following her death. In the video, Grewal spoke about safety concerns after a man allegedly poured gasoline on her front door and set it on fire.

Grewal had been a vocal critic of Khalistani groups and had previously claimed she faced threats because of her views. She said in one of her English-language posts that the arson incident had taken place at her home in November.

Her mother alleged that the attackers deliberately chose a location without CCTV cameras to carry out the assault.

Shinder Pal Grewal said her daughter had received death threats in the past and had reported them to the police. She added that Grewal’s house had been set on fire about two months ago and a complaint regarding the incident had been filed.

The family also alleged that Grewal had disputes with certain individuals linked to a gurdwara located on County Road. According to her mother, Grewal had raised concerns about ration allegedly being stolen from the gurdwara and had helped install cameras there.

“She stood by the truth and refused to apologise despite pressure,” her mother said, adding that the disagreement later escalated into hostility.

Nancy Grewal was active on social media and often responded to abusive comments directed at her online, her mother said. However, she had not posted videos for the past three months as she was focusing on her work.

Her family said Grewal worked as a nurse and was employed with two companies, often working shifts lasting up to 16 hours a day.

Her mother alleged that those involved in the earlier arson attack on Grewal’s house could also be responsible for her killing. She also claimed that whenever Grewal received threatening messages or notes, she would inform the police, but no effective action was taken.

Nancy Grewal, 45, had not remarried after her divorce. Her body has been kept at a mortuary in Canada, and her mother said she plans to travel there to see her daughter.

She has appealed to both Indian and Canadian authorities to ensure her safety, saying she fears for her life after her daughter’s killing.
