Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled previously unseen footage from the October 7 Hamas attack, standing beside a mourning mother who lost her family in the assault.
According to his office, the release was intended to serve as a reminder to the world of the horrors Israel experienced, amid growing international criticism of its ongoing military operations in Gaza.
The black-and-white CCTV footage released from the October 7 Hamas attack shows militants storming the home of the Tassa family in the southern Israeli community of Netiv Haasara. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared the video while standing beside Sabine Tassa, whose family was devastated in the assault.
In the footage, Gil Tassa and his sons, Koren and Shay, are seen fleeing into a shelter before a grenade is thrown inside. Smoke quickly fills the space as the attackers enter, and Gil is killed instantly.
During a frantic moment, Shay tells his brother, “I can only see with one eye.” One of the attackers is then seen casually opening the family’s fridge before leaving. Gil’s 17-year-old son Or, who was not home that morning, was killed separately while fishing at Zikim beach.
Koren and Shay later escaped to their mother Sabine’s nearby home, where they hid until being rescued.
Standing beside her, Netanyahu praised her strength: “Sabine’s courage shames these terrorist cowards... she stands tall with dignity, with strength.”
The Israeli Prime Minister said the footage exposes the truth behind the attack: “This film should break every decent heart that still beats... We’ll destroy Hamas. We’ll bring our hostages home because we remember October 7. And so should you.”
