US President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for resolving multiple international conflicts, asserting that he ended “eight wars” and suggesting he should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

“I ended eight wars. I, If you look at those wars, these were tough wars to end, too. And let me tell you, India and Pakistan were going at it. As you know, they were going at it…But that was one of eight. But we ended eight strong wars. Some have been going on for more than 30 years,” Trump said in an interview with The New York Times last week.

Trump’s remarks come amid discussions around Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who previously expressed her desire to share her Nobel Peace Prize with the US president.

Speaking to Fox News, Machado said, “I certainly would love to be able to personally tell him that we believe, the Venezuelan people, because this is a prize of the Venezuelan people, certainly want to give it to him, and share it with him.”

“I’ve stopped eight wars,” Trump reiterated in an interview with Hannity. “I think it’s been a major embarrassment to Norway. Now, I don’t know what Norway has to do with it but that’s where the committee is located, a lot of Norwegian people. When you put out eight wars, in theory you should get one for each war.”

However, the Norwegian Nobel Institute clarified that the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be shared or transferred. “A Nobel Prize cannot be revoked nor transferred to others. Once the laureate or laureates are announced, the decision is final,” said Erik Aasheim, spokesperson for the institute. He added that while the prize money may be distributed at the winner’s discretion, the prize itself cannot be given to anyone else.

The controversy emerged after Machado, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, dedicated her award to Trump for his role in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Trump later dismissed Machado as a prospective Venezuelan leader, saying she did not have the support of the people.
