Mumbai Rains Updates: Heavy rains lash Mumbai; three injured, IMD issues orange alert

Two motorbikes were damaged after a portion of a protective wall collapsed near Siddheshwar Lake in Thane city on Monday evening amid rains, though no one was injured in the incident, civic officials said.

The incident took place at Shaheed Udyan in the Pachpakhadi area of the city, they said.

A wall, measuring about 15 feet in length and 6 feet in height, suddenly caved in near Gurukripa Chali, damaging two motorbikes parked there.

In another incident, the compound wall of a housing society caved in in Navi Mumbai due to heavy rains in the evening, though no one was injured, civic officials said

Heavy rains battered Mumbai on Monday, causing waterlogging, temporary train delays, and injuring three people in separate wall collapse and tree fall incidents.

Between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, Colaba recorded 42.2 mm of rainfall and Santacruz 69.6 mm. Nariyalwadi saw the highest downpour at 93 mm in 10 hours, followed by BKC (92 mm) and Khar East (86 mm).

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and parts of Vidarbha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain till 8:30 am Tuesday.

Civil Hospital Superintendent Rakesh Joshi stated that DNA identification has been completed for 119 victims so far. Of these, the bodies of 76 have been released to their families. The remaining 43 include 14 whose remains are expected to be handed over by tomorrow morning.

IMD official Radheshyam Sharma says, "Over the next 24 to 48 hours, Rajasthan is likely to see thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall, and strong winds. Light to moderate showers are also expected, with temperatures likely to drop by 5 to 8 degrees. No heatwave is predicted in the coming days. From June 21 onwards, the monsoon is expected to set in with increased rainfall activity and a high probability of intense thunderstorms."
