Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and several other prominent tech leaders attended a 2015 dinner hosted by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to photographs and emails released in the latest tranche of US Department of Justice documents.

One photograph, emailed by Epstein to himself on August 3, 2015, shows Meta CEO Zuckerberg seated next to Tesla and SpaceX chief Musk at a long dining table. PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel and former MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito are also visible in the image. Epstein does not appear in the photo and is believed to have taken it himself.

In a separate email sent later that month, Epstein described the gathering as “wild,” writing that he had dinner with “zuckerburg, mu=k, thiel hoffman,” while also mentioning LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. Hoffman and Thiel are not seen in the image, which features nine people.

The newly released material was made public on January 30 under the Epstein Files Transparency Act and includes emails, photographs and other records from federal investigations. The dinner had first been reported in 2019, when it was said to have been organised by Reid Hoffman in honour of MIT neuroscientist Ed Boyden.

Meta has previously stated that Zuckerberg met Epstein “in passing one time” at the dinner and “did not communicate with Epstein again following the dinner.”

Musk, in a 2019 email to Vanity Fair, said, “Epstein is obviously a creep, and Zuckerberg is not a friend of mine,” confirming his presence at the dinner while denying that he introduced Zuckerberg to Epstein. Musk has also said he never attended any party organised by Epstein.

Emails released by the Justice Department show Epstein also informed celebrity doctor Peter Attia about the dinner in August 2015, writing: “Where are you? I might be in LA Monday, burbank to look at the interior of the other bbj, tonite dinner with Musk, Thiel, Zuckerburg.” Attia responded, “Sounds like an awesome dinner.”

Following the latest disclosures, Musk reiterated on X that he had “very little correspondence with Epstein and declined repeated invitations to go to his island or fly on his ‘Lolita Express’.”

There is no evidence in the released documents suggesting any criminal wrongdoing by Musk, Zuckerberg or other attendees. The files highlight Epstein’s continued contact with influential figures years after his 2008 conviction for sex crimes.

The Department of Justice has said further material may be released as part of ongoing transparency efforts related to the Epstein investigation.
