India is gearing up for a grand 77th Republic Day celebration on January 26, 2026, with preparations in full swing at Kartavya Path, New Delhi. Organised by the Ministry of Defence, Republic Day 2026 promises to be a landmark event that brings together patriotism, cultural heritage, modern military strength and inclusive public participation.
Adding historic significance, this year marks 150 years of India’s national song, ‘Vande Mataram’, a theme that will run through every aspect of the celebrations — from parade tableaux and cultural performances to decorations and national outreach programmes.
Republic Day 2026 Theme: 150 Years of Vande Mataram
The official theme of the Republic Day Parade 2026 is “150 Years of Vande Mataram”, celebrating the song that became a rallying cry during India’s freedom movement. Rare paintings illustrating verses of Vande Mataram, first created in 1923, will be displayed along Kartavya Path.
Floral arrangements, invitation cards, videos and tableaux will echo the theme, while pan-India band performances on the theme ‘Vande Mataram’ are organised across India from January 19 to January 26, 2026, reflecting the spirit of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Who Will Be the Chief Guests at Republic Day Parade 2026?
The Chief Guests at the Republic Day Parade 2026 will be António Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. Their participation highlights India’s expanding global partnerships and strong diplomatic engagement with Europe.

Republic Day 2026 Parade Details: Military Display and Battle Array Formation
A major highlight of Republic Day Celebrations 2026 will be the Indian Army’s Battle Array Formation, showcased for the first time. Military assets will move in a realistic combat sequence — beginning with reconnaissance units, followed by logistics support and troops in full battle gear.
The parade will also mark the debut of the Bhairav Light Commando Battalion and feature indigenous defence platforms such as the Shaktibaan Regiment, Drone Power systems, and the Universal Rocket Launcher.
The Indian Air Force flypast will include 29 aircraft, featuring Rafale, Su-30 MKI, MiG-29, along with Apache and LCH Prachand helicopters, forming a spectacular finale. The inclusion of the Zanskar Pony, Bactrian Camel, and Army Dog Squad will represent India’s diverse operational terrain. A special IAF veterans’ tableau will honour former service personnel.
Tableaux, Cultural Performances and Citizen Participation
As many as 30 tableaux from States, Union Territories, Ministries and Departments will roll down Kartavya Path, showcasing India’s cultural diversity, innovation and self-reliance. Around 2,500 artists will participate in the cultural performances during the parade.
Associated events include Bharat Parv at Red Fort, the National School Band Competition, Project Veer Gatha 5.0, and the Prime Minister’s NCC Rally.
Nearly 10,000 special guests from across India — including farmers, scientists, entrepreneurs, students, sportspersons, women self-help group members, artisans and workers — will attend the parade, reflecting the government’s focus on inclusive celebrations and Janbhagidari.
Special Guests and Jan Bhagidari Focus
Approximately 10,000 special guests (along with their spouses) from different walks of life have been invited to witness the 77th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on January 26, 2026. These invitees include individuals who have carried out exemplary work in income and employment generation, best innovators, researchers and start-up founders, members of Self Help Groups, and top performers under key government initiatives.
The objective behind inviting these guests is to honour their contributions to nation-building while strengthening Jan Bhagidari by ensuring that citizens who drive grassroots change are recognised at events of national importance.
