According to party sources, Yogi Adityanath is likely to be fielded from Ayodhya and Keshav Prasad Maurya from Sirathu constituency.

Maurya is the most high-profile leader to leave the BJP ahead of the Uttar Pradesh polls beginning February 10. He was minister of labour, employment, coordination in the Yogi Adityanath government. Soon after his resignation, three more BJP legislators — Roshan Lal Verma, Brijesh Prajapati and Bhagwati Sagar — quit the party.

He also asserted that a grand alliance between the SP, the BSP and the Congress will have no impact on the BJP's electoral prospects in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The deputy chief minister also said that the BJP is aiming to win 74 of the 80 seats of the state in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing a 'Samajik Pratinidhi Baithak' organised by UP BJP's Backward Cell, Maurya said, "During the Congress government's stint, only 15 paise out of one rupee used to reach the beneficiary.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress was running a "contest" to vilify Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the country.

"Gujarat model is the world's most successful model (of development), and the country has accepted this model. We are blessed that a great world leader -- and not just a leader of India -- Narendra Modi led this state for a long period," Maurya said, speaking to reporters here.
