Sarvam AI has officially stepped into consumer hardware with the launch of Kaze, a pair of AI-powered smart glasses designed and built in India. The Bengaluru-based startup showcased the glasses at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen trying them out on stage, giving the product an immediate national spotlight.
Kaze is positioned as a hands-free extension of your smartphone, bringing AI-powered listening, understanding and visual capture directly to your face. The glasses feature visible cameras, putting them in the same category as products like Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses, and are designed to respond to voice commands, interpret surroundings and snap photos or short visuals.
According to Sarvam, Kaze runs on the company’s own foundational AI models, which are trained specifically for Indian languages and local use cases such as voice-first interactions and document understanding. That focus could help it stand apart in a category that has so far been dominated by English-first experiences.
Co-founder Pratyush Kumar announced the product on X, describing Kaze as Sarvam’s first attempt at putting its models directly into users’ hands through consumer devices. He also hinted at deep customisation, with users and developers able to create their own experiences using Sarvam’s platform.
The glasses are scheduled to go on sale in May 2026, with a chat-based AI feature expected to roll out later this week. However, Sarvam has not yet shared key details such as pricing, battery life, hardware specifications or how much processing happens on-device versus in the cloud.
Visually, Kaze adopts a clean, everyday spectacles-style design rather than a futuristic look, suggesting Sarvam wants the glasses to blend into daily life rather than feel like a tech accessory. Whether that design philosophy translates into comfort and real-world usability remains to be seen.
With Meta recently bringing its Ray-Ban smart glasses to India, Sarvam is entering an increasingly competitive space. The difference is that Kaze is being pitched as a product made in India, for Indian users, with AI models tuned to local languages and contexts.
