Samsung’s newest foldables went on sale in India on July 9, and within just two days, they racked up over 2.1 lakh pre-orders. That figure includes the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. While that shows strong consumer interest in foldable phones, new data reveals a potential concern that could give many buyers pause — the repair costs.

A report from SamMobile, citing a European parts supplier, suggests that repairing the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s main display could cost around 761 Euros, or approximately Rs. 76,395. That’s just for the part, not including labour. This cost is higher than the price of some newly launched flagship phones such as the Nothing Phone (3), and not far off from Samsung’s own Galaxy S25.

The smaller cover screen on the Fold 7 is slightly less expensive to fix, with parts estimated at 525 Euros or about Rs. 52,703.

For those considering the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the numbers are less alarming but still significant. The inner folding screen could cost Rs. 34,343 (342 Euros) to repair, while the new FlexWindow cover display is estimated at Rs. 20,787 (207 Euros). Again, these prices exclude service charges, which would make repairs even more expensive.

These high costs highlight why an extended warranty or Samsung Care+ protection plan is no longer optional for foldable buyers. Given the complexity of flexible screens and premium materials, accidental damage or screen issues can become a serious financial burden without cover.

Foldable phones may look futuristic and elegant, but they are also among the most fragile and expensive devices in the market today. Unlike traditional smartphones, where repairs are relatively affordable or optional, owning a foldable demands planning — not just for the initial purchase, but for future maintenance as well.
