Popular chip maker Qualcomm has officially revealed its latest 7-series processor, called the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, which brings some minor performance gains compared to its predecessor. It also offers support for more detailed displays and allows for better video quality in low-light situations. Moreover, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 SoC is confirmed to debut on the upcoming Redmi Note 15 Pro+.
Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 SoC: Specifications, availability
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is the successor to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 with an identical 1+3+4 Kryo CPU configuration, and is built on a 4nm fabrication process. The Prime Cortex-A720 core has been boosted to 2.7GHz, up from 2.5GHz on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. Meanwhile, the three Cortex-A720 cores operating at 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A520 cores running at 1.8GHz are similar to its predecessor.
However, this chipset gets an updated Adreno GPU, which Qualcomm claims offers a 7% boost. It also brings Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 and Snapdragon Game Super Resolution. Display support has also been widened, and the chipset now supports ultra-wide panels with up to 2,900 x 1,300 resolution at 144Hz refresh rate.
The chip supports LPDDR5 RAM at 3,200 MHz and UFS 3.1 storage, alongside Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4+ charging tech. On the connectivity front, the 7s Gen 4 chip supports sub-6 GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. Recent leaks and reports suggest that the first device to feature the new Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset will be the Redmi Note 15 Pro+, which is to launch later this week on August 21.
