Perplexity AI is bringing its AI-first browsing experience to mobile. The company has officially launched its Comet browser for iPhone, expanding beyond its earlier rollout on Mac and marking its next step in turning the browser into an AI assistant.

From desktop to your pocket

Comet first debuted as one of the early AI-centric browsers on macOS, positioning itself as more than just a place to open tabs. With the iPhone version now live, that same philosophy carries over—only this time, it’s built for on-the-go usage.

The app was initially scheduled to launch on March 11 but saw a brief delay before going live this week.

At its core, Comet blends traditional browsing with AI-powered search and chat. Instead of jumping between apps or tabs, users can rely on the built-in assistant to summarise pages, answer questions, organise tasks, and even help with things like shopping or scheduling.

Perplexity positions Comet as a “thinking partner,” not just a browser—one that learns how you work and adapts over time to keep things organised.

What you can expect

The browser focuses heavily on context-aware interactions. That means pulling information directly from the page you’re on, offering summaries, and helping you act on that information without leaving the browser environment.

It also aims to reduce clutter—whether that’s managing tabs or helping you keep track of ideas and ongoing tasks.

For now, Comet’s iOS rollout is limited to the iPhone. There’s no iPad version ready at launch, which leaves a gap for users who prefer a larger-screen browsing experience.

That said, Comet is now available across multiple platforms, including Mac, Windows, and Android, making it a fairly broad ecosystem already.

The iPhone launch comes alongside Perplexity’s wider push into AI agents. The company recently introduced a “Personal Computer” agent designed to run locally on Macs—hinting at a future where AI doesn’t just assist within apps, but operates across the entire device.
