OPPO has confirmed that its next flagship smartphone, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, will launch globally later this year, marking the first time the company is taking its “Ultra” series beyond China.

The move is significant for OPPO, which has so far kept its most premium offerings largely limited to its home market. By bringing the Find X9 Ultra to a global audience, the company is signalling a more serious push in the high-end smartphone segment, where it competes with brands like Apple and Samsung.

For this device, OPPO is putting a clear focus on cameras. The company says the Find X9 Ultra will feature its most advanced imaging system yet, developed in partnership with Hasselblad. The two brands have worked together for a few years now, and this phone appears to be the next step in that collaboration.

While OPPO hasn’t shared detailed specifications yet, it is pitching the phone as something that could replace a dedicated camera for many users. The messaging is quite direct, with the company positioning it as a device built for people who care about photography but want the convenience of a smartphone.

At a media event in Barcelona, OPPO Europe CEO Elvis Zhou said that the “Ultra” tag is being used too loosely across the industry, and that the company wants its device to actually justify the label. It’s a pointed comment, especially at a time when nearly every major brand has an “Ultra” model in its lineup.

That said, a lot still depends on what OPPO delivers when the full details are out. So far, the company has only talked broadly about improvements in optical engineering and image quality, without getting into specifics like sensors, zoom capabilities, or processing hardware.

The global launch timeline is also still a bit vague, with OPPO saying more information will be shared in phases in the coming months.

For now, the Find X9 Ultra looks like an attempt by OPPO to strengthen its position in the premium market by leaning heavily on camera performance. Whether it actually stands out in an already crowded space will become clearer once the finer details are announced.
