Man reveals how his friend scammed Swiggy Instamart with false refund requests

A Reddit post has sparked a heated debate online after a user revealed how his friend regularly exploited Swiggy Instamart’s refund system to get free groceries. The post, which has since gone viral, details how the friend would falsely claim missing items after every few orders to receive instant refunds.

According to the user, his friend from Bengaluru would place expensive orders on Swiggy Instamart and, once they were delivered in full, open the “Help” section of the app and report that one costly item was missing. Swiggy’s quick refund mechanism—designed to support genuine customers—would often issue a refund almost immediately, without asking for any solid proof like an unboxing video.

“At first, I found it funny,” the Reddit user confessed, “but now I think it’s highly unethical and he needs to be reported.” He said the friend repeated this act nearly every month, pocketing refunds for items he never actually lost.

The revelation led to a flood of comments from users, many of whom condemned the act as outright fraud. Some warned that Swiggy’s system would eventually flag the suspicious activity and ban the friend’s account, while others urged the original poster to report the behaviour. One user cautioned, “Don’t get involved, but he’ll soon find out when Swiggy blocks his account.” Another noted that such repeated false claims could eventually lead to stricter refund policies for everyone.

Several commenters pointed out a larger issue — that small-scale frauds like these not only hurt companies but also make it harder for genuine customers to get help. “Because of people like this, honest buyers with real complaints will struggle to get refunds in the future,” one user wrote.

The post has reignited a conversation around ethics in the age of instant refunds and digital convenience. While refund systems are meant to build trust and protect consumers, exploiting them for personal gain is both illegal and deeply unethical. Such acts not only damage the reputation of honest users but also force platforms to tighten policies, ultimately making the experience harder for everyone.
