Google just made a big announcement at MWC 2025, and if you love AI-powered tools, this one’s exciting! They’re rolling out Project Astra-powered live video and screen sharing in Gemini Live later this month. But what does that mean for you? Let’s break it down.
What is Project Astra?
Project Astra is Google’s advanced AI system designed to understand and interact with the real world in real-time. It is an AI assistant that doesn’t just answer your questions but also sees and understands what’s happening around you.
What can it do?
With Project Astra integrated into Gemini Live, you can:
– Share your screen with Gemini and let it analyse what’s on your phone’s display and provide instant insights.
– You can also use it as live video, simply turn on your phone camera, and Astra will interpret what it sees in real time.
– You can also have a real conversation with Astra. Instead of just getting short answers, you can chat back and forth with Gemini for deeper explanations.
For example, let’s say you’re stuck on a confusing settings page on your phone. Just share your screen with Gemini Live, and it’ll tell you exactly what to do. Or, if you’re fixing something at home, you can point your camera at it, and Astra will guide you step by step.
How can you use it?
Using these features is super simple:
1️– On Android, open Gemini Live, you will see a new "Share screen with Live" button above the chat box.
2️ You can tap on it to share your screen, now you can ask Gemini questions about what’s on display.
3️ Or start a live video by switching to video mode, and Astra will analyze the real world around you.
These upgrades are coming later this month for Gemini Advanced subscribers under the Google One AI Premium plan. If you’re at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, you can already test it out!
