Google introduces AI-powered writing tools on the Gmail web interface: All the details

Google is expanding its generative AI-powered features for Gmail, such as ‘Help me write’ and ‘Polish’ shortcuts on the web after they were introduced in the mobile app a couple of months ago.

The 'Help me write' tool is one of the most used features of the Gmail application, especially for users who want to formalise, elaborate, and shorten their emails. This feature is designed to improve the overall quality and effectiveness of communication via Gmail. However, after introducing it at last year’s Google I/O conference and then on the Gmail app a couple of months ago, many Gmail web users were left disappointed about the non-availability of the feature on their interface.

Thankfully, things are about to be changed.  In a new blog post, Google has confirmed that the ‘Help me write’ shortcut will appear in the body of the email when an email draft is empty on the web version of Gmail. Moreover, besides expanding the ‘Help me write’ shortcut to the web, there's also a 'Polish' shortcut making it to the web and mobile devices.

The ‘Polish’ shortcut will be visible for drafts containing 12 or more words and can also be activated on the web by pressing the Ctrl+H keys. The feature is also rolling out to the Gmail Android app, and mobile users can swipe the shortcut text to see a refined draft of their emails. This shortcut was earlier known as ‘Refine my draft.’

As for their availability, Google has confirmed that both ‘Help Me Write’ and ‘Polish’ features will be automatically available for Google Workspace customers with the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education add-ons, and Google One AI Premium subscribers. However, it may take up to 15 days for a complete rollout.
