Elon Musk takes a dig at OpenAI

Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015, and reportedly left the company three years later, has made a new jab at the company's direction while speaking to the audience at Cannes Lions on Wednesday. He took to the festival stage as a guest speaker in the interview with WPP CEO Mark Read, where he mostly talked about major tech innovations.

Musk had also sued the company in February, accusing the ChatGPT maker of abandoning its original, nonprofit mission by monetising some of its most advanced AI technology services. However, last week, he dropped the lawsuit against the company and its CEO, Sam Altman.

He also confirmed that he had started OpenAI to compete against Google and eradicate its dominance in AI. Musk, further stated, the company was formed with a lot of good intentions, and the Open in OpenAI was meant to stand for 'open source,' and he had named it.

Additionally, he took a jab at OpenAI, and said,"Now it's closed-source for maximum-profit AI, which is different from what was intended. I don't know how it got there." Musk, a vocal advocate for AI safety, believes that OpenAI's current path deviates from its founding principles of responsible innovation and open collaboration.

However, Musk hopes that artificial intelligence will transform the livelihood of many and remains optimistic about its potential in the future. He added, "In the positive scenario, the AI will be doing its best to make you happy. So that might work out pretty well."
