Elon Musk’s AI company xAI has taken things up a notch with the latest update to its image and video generator, Grok Imagine. The tool, now available to all SuperGrok and Premium+ subscribers on X’s iOS app, includes a new feature that’s getting a lot of attention, a “spicy mode” that allows users to create sexually suggestive content.
Yes, you read that right. With this new mode, users can type in a prompt and generate a 15-second video complete with native audio, which can include partially nude or risqué visuals. While there are content restrictions in place many explicit prompts result in blurred or moderated images, some semi-nude imagery does make it through.
This isn’t exactly shocking coming from xAI. Just last month, the company introduced an anime-inspired AI companion with a hyper-sexualized vibe. Musk has always pitched Grok as an "unfiltered" alternative to other chatbots, and it looks like the image generator is following the same path for better or worse.
The “spicy mode” feature first came to light after xAI employee Mati Roy posted about it on X (formerly Twitter), saying it could generate nudity. That post has since been deleted, but the feature is real and controversial.
One concern? Grok Imagine can also generate content featuring celebrities. While there are safeguards in place (you can’t, for example, create a pregnant Donald Trump), the potential for misuse is high.
For now, Grok’s human-like images still fall into the “uncanny valley” with shiny skin and cartoon-like features but the speed and ease of image creation are impressive. Users can enter a text prompt and instantly see multiple image results, which can be animated into stylized videos with a simple tap.
Musk has promised the tool will “get better every day,” but as Grok Imagine pushes boundaries, it also raises tough questions about moderation, ethics, and how far generative AI should go.
