Apple announced its quarterly results with India being one of the high points. During a call with investors after the results were announced, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that Apple had set revenue records in more than a dozen countries and regions, including India. Other regions where Apple set revenue records include Canada, Latin America, Spain, Middle East and Turkey.
Cook also said that he is “very, very pleased” about how the company is doing in India. “We did grow a strong double-digit in India and set a new March quarter revenue record,” Cook told investors.
The Apple CEO reiterated his claim about India being “an incredibly exciting market and it’s a major focus for us.” He also said that in terms of supply chain side or operation side it is pragmatic to be “producing there”. “From a pragmatic point of view, you need to produce there to be competitive,” he said in reference to India.
He also said that Apple is working to expand its channels in India as well as its developer ecosystem. “We have been very pleased that “there is a rapidly-growing base of developers” in India. He said that Apple is working “all of the entire ecosystem from developer to the market to operations, the whole thing.” He further added that he could “not be more excited and enthusiastic about it.”
In 2023, Apple revealed that it supports over a million developer jobs in India and is looking to expand its ecosystem.
Apple has ramped up the assembly of iPhones in India in the last couple of years. In terms of retail, Apple has opened two stores — Apple BKC and Apple Saket — in Mumbai and New Delhi respectively.
