The next big smartphone battle is already brewing, as the Apple iPhone 18 and Samsung Galaxy S26 series are set to be introduced in 2026. Recent leaks and rumours have given us a brief idea of what to expect from these two flagship lineups, with both companies expected to follow different launch strategies next year. Here’s everything we know so far about the next generation of iPhones and Galaxy flagship smartphones.

iPhone 18 series: Expected specifications, launch timeline

The iPhone 18 series, like the recently launched iPhone 17 series, is likely to consist of iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with plans for an iPhone Air 2 may be on hold. Moreover, a recent report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple could be changing up its usual release rhythm, as for the first time in over a decade, the company may release the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026, while six months later, in spring 2027, the company may release the base iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e.

All the devices in the lineup are expected to be powered by the A20 Bionic chip, which could be the first Apple chip to be built on a next-generation 2-nanometre process. This processor promises huge gains in efficiency and AI processing power, helping Apple deliver smarter features powered by Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 18 phones are also expected to feature next-generation OLED panels with higher brightness levels and improved power efficiency.

Samsung Galaxy S26 series: Expected specifications, launch timeline

Multiple recent reports have suggested that the Galaxy S26 lineup will stick to the familiar formula, with the S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra, with the Galaxy S26 Edge reportedly being cancelled. Further, these models will likely get bigger displays, batteries, and will be powered by either the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2600 chip, depending on the region.

However, the company could launch the Galaxy S26 series a little later than usual in February 2026, likely due to a delay in production plans of the Galaxy S26 Plus. Samsung is also expected to adopt M14 OLED displays, the same high-end panels used by Apple and Google, to improve brightness and colour accuracy.
