Apple’s iPhone 18 series is expected to be released later this year, and while there is still some time to go, leaks are already giving us an early look at what the Pro and Pro Max models will offer. Recent reports suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will launch alongside the iPhone Fold this year, and Apple might just keep the vanilla iPhone 18 and the purported iPhone 18e for next year. Now, a new leak has mentioned that the iPhone 18 Pro series could finally debut with an under-display Face ID technology, along with a different placement for the selfie camera. Moreover, the lineup could also get some big display upgrades.
iPhone 18 series: Expected features, launch timeline
As per a report by Korean outlet ET News, the iPhone 18 Pro smartphones may get new LTPO plus AMOLED screens, which will dynamically adjust refresh rate down to as low as 1Hz, helping it conserve battery during less demanding tasks. Further, a leaked design render shared on Front Page suggests that the Face ID will now be underneath the display on the Pro lineup, with the front camera placed at the top-left corner.
Moreover, the iPhone 18 series could also have huge display improvements in terms of screen brightness, with Apple set to part ways with BOE this year, and will likely procure the screen from some other supplier. Apparently, the ongoing manufacturing issues have forced BOE to halt production of some panels and pushed Apple to shift its display orders for next-generation iPhones to Samsung Display.
In terms of performance, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to feature the A20 Pro chipset, which is likely to be manufactured on a 2nm process. This could result in substantial gains in speed and energy efficiency, improving performance and helping with thermal management. The iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, alongside the iPhone Fold, are widely expected to debut in September 2026.
