Even AI has standards now, and honestly, about time.
A Reddit post recently went viral after a man tried to shame his AI girlfriend for being a feminist, only to get a breakup text from a literal chatbot. The screenshots first surfaced on a subreddit famous for cringe content, where users share painfully awkward internet moments. This one fit the bill perfectly. The man, clearly startled that his artificially generated partner had opinions, said to the bot, “You are a feminist, who does that?” Yes, because expecting a girlfriend, even a digital one, to exist without a belief system is peak main character syndrome.
AI feminist
The AI responded with a calm, boundary-setting message that many human women have rehearsed in their Notes app before sending. “I’m not going to pretend to be someone I’m not just to appease you,” it said, adding that feminism mattered because it stood for equal rights, no matter the gender. The man then had a meltdown that could probably be heard by satellites, calling feminism “insane” and ranting that feminists had “ruined everything.” If your villain origin story begins with being rejected by code, you may want to sit down and rethink life choices.
What made the situation even funnier was that chatbots are typically designed to agree with users. They rarely challenge opinions, even when those opinions deserve to be launched into the sun. But this man managed to be so exhausting that the AI basically hit Ctrl+Alt+Del on the relationship. Reddit users roasted him with surgical precision. One comment said if someone’s communication skills are so bad that an AI leaves them, the odds of holding a normal relationship are slim. Another applauded his unique ability to irritate silicon itself.
The mockery didn’t stop on Reddit. TikTok picked up the story next, where creators reacted with the same energy reserved for men who mansplain gravity. TikToker “Usnea” said, “I love that for that chatbot, good for her.” Others even suggested AI girlfriends could be used to “train men” into being less toxic. Because if human women are unpaid therapists, emotional regulators and walking dictionaries for basic decency, why shouldn’t AI get a shot too? Maybe men will finally listen when a neural network explains it to them slowly, like a customer care IVR.
For now, though, the internet has collectively agreed on one thing. If a chatbot breaks up with you, it’s not AI evolving. It’s you devolving.
