India started the preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on a strong note. The Men In Blue are currently engaged in a three-match ODI series against England at home, which serves as the perfect dress rehearsal for the marquee ICC tournament. India have also attained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with team vice-captain Shubman Gill showing tremendous form.
In addition, Ravindra Jadeja has been equally potent with the ball while Rohit Sharma's return to form has just put icing on the cake. However, one area, which still appear concerning considering India's ambitions at the Champions Trophy, is Jasprit Bumrah's fitness. Arguably one of the best pacers in the world currently, Bumrah is still tackling fitness issue and waits for a green signal from the medical team.
The delay has cast a dark shadow on Bumrah's participation in the elite tournament and his teammates are not sure what lies in the future. Jadeja was asked about Bumrah's fitness post the second ODI in Cuttack, which India won by four wickets. The all-rounder sounded clueless but hoped for a speedy recovery, which will be great for both the team and the country.
"That’s something the medical team is handling. Hopefully, he recovers fully soon because it’s not just great for our team, but for the entire country," he said.
Bumrah was India's main force in Down Under, spearheading the attack in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He, however, went down with back spasms during the fifth and final Test in Sydney.
BCCI had kept Bumrah in the ODI series against England. But while releasing an updated squad for the same the board added spinner Varun Chakaravarthy and removed Bumrah entirely from the series. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier expected the pacer to be fit for the third and final ODI when the initial squad was announced.
