For the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2026, Litton Das has been selected captain of the Bangladeshi cricket squad. Following his official appointment as Bangladesh's T20I captain in May 2025, Litton will extend his role in the team. In the sport's shortest format, Najmul Hossain Shanto was replaced as the team's captain by the seasoned wicketkeeper-batter.
Litton, a Hindu, was previously the target of trolling due to his religious convictions. Along with players like Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon, he is anticipated to be a key member of the Bangladeshi batting top order in the forthcoming competition.

In 1994, Litton was born in Bangladesh's Dinajpur district into a Bengali Hindu household. In 2015, he made his Test debut against India, and eight days later, he made his ODI debut. In the same year, the wicketkeeper-batter made his T20I debut against South Africa. In 2017, Litton—who had previously been a specialist batter—was assigned to wicketkeeping while Mushfiqur Rahim played just as a batter.
In the 2018 Asia Cup final, Litton scored a stunning century against India, making it his most memorable knock. Despite Bangladesh's defeat, he was named "Man of the Match." In an ODI match against Zimbabwe in March 2020, he struck an incredible 176 off 143 balls, the greatest individual score by any Bangladeshi cricket team batter. Although Litton has led Bangladesh in every format throughout the years, his appointment as the T20I captain in 2025 was the first time he was given full-time captaincy of the national team. In cricket, Litton has amassed 3,117 runs in Tests, 2,569 in ODIs, and 2,655 in T20Is.
During a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) game in 2025, Litton was singled out by fans because of his religious convictions. While playing for the Dhaka Capitals against Fortune Barishal, the wicketkeeper-batter was jeered by the crowd. In a video that went viral on social media, fans pointed at him while chanting the racial slur "bhuya," which can mean "fake" or "garbage." But Litton, fielding close to the boundary line, said nothing and kept looking at the spectators.
