Jasprit Bumrah passed a distasteful remark on Temba Bavuma's height on Day 1 of the first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Bumrah made the remark while discussing a LBW appeal against the Proteas skipper with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. The incident took place in the final delivery of the 13th over.
It happened after Bumrah struck Bavuma on the back thigh, following which the bowler burst out in a loud appeal. The umpire didn't seem interested as Bumrah insisted on going for a review, following which he got into a discussion with Rishabh Pant with other teammates joining in.
It was then Bumrah was caught saying "Bauna bhi toh hain yeh (Bavuma)" on the stump-mic. Pant responded "bauna hain, par yaha pe laga hain", indicating that the ball would have missed the stumps.
As the discussions continued, Bumrah kept insisting on Bavuma's short height.
For the unversed, 'Bauna' is a Hindi word used to refer dwarf.

Bavuma was dismissed a couple of overs later after the incident, as he was caught at backward short-leg by Dhruv Jurel for 3(11) off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling.
Meanwhile, Bumrah injected double blows after South Africa got off to a promising start after winning the toss and opting to bat. The pacer dismissed both Proteas opener Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram, breaking the 57-run stand between the duo. Rickelton was dismissed for 23, while Markram got out for 31.
