RCB captain 2025 announcement highlights: Rajat Patidar named new Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper for IPL 2025

February 13, 2025· 12:51 IST

RCB captain 2025 announcement highlights: The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have named Rajat Patidar as their new skipper for the IPL 2025 season, which gets underway from next month. Virat Kohli, who was retained by the franchise for Rs 21 crore, was another forerunner for the position. Patidar was one of the three players retained by the franchise ahead of the auction for Rs 11 crore. Patidar has emerged as one of the vital cog for the franchise. He started his journey with RCB back in IPL 2021 but had a quiet outing. Then Patidar managed just 71 runs from four matches. He rejoined the franchise in 2022 as a replacement for the injured Luvnith Sisodia for INR 20 lakh, which was more like a breakthrough season for the Madhya Pradesh cricketer. In 2022, Patidar scored 333 runs, with his highest score being 112 not out. This knock came in the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Patidar was not part of the 2023 season due to an injury and in the previous edition, he managed to score 395 runs at an average of 30.38 and a strike rate of 177.13. So far, Patidar has made 27 appearances for the franchise in which he has amassed 799 runs at a strike rate of 158.85.
