Climate change happening due to increased global warming according to two recent studies, this change is making the glacier ice is melt rapidly. The water concentration is increasing near the equator, making a mass collection in the middle that is increasing the planet's inertia, and making the Earth's day longer. The speed of the planet depends on the mass and shape of that planet.
The researcher's team of Benedikt Soja the author of the two new studies and an assistant professor of space geodesy at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. has confirmed the climate change impact on the Earth's spin. According to reports, it is revealed that the ice present in Antarctica and Greenland is responsible for this change happening.
Benedikt Soja has released a warning that this change will have a great impact on the digital infrastructure, GPS, time and space travel. The Earth's rotation also gets impacted due to the moon's gravitational force affecting the day by 2.3 milliseconds per century.
The slowdown in Earth’s spin leads to longer days even if the effect is small still the day is impacted by (just a few milliseconds compared to the typical 86,400 seconds), it’s significant.
The Earth's axis, the invisible circle around which it revolves, has been impacted by the significant ice sheet melting. This change affects the fluids in the Earth's molten core below the surface through feedback.
The research showed that fundamental aspects of the planet's physical characteristics, such as its rotation, had been modified by people. Extreme carbon emissions could eventually lead Earth's rotation to equal the moon's tidal forces in influence.
“You can add Earth’s rotation to this list of things humans have completely affected,” said Soja. he explained that if humans continue to pollute the planet and carbon emissions keep increasing it will lead to global warming becoming a powerful force that will even overtake the moon effect on the Earth. “In the worst scenarios, then yeah, climate change would become the most dominant factor.” He further added this in his statement.
A diverse strategy is needed to mitigate the effects of melting ice, including cutting greenhouse gas emissions, preventing glacial ice sheets, capturing and sequestering carbon, and more. In general, the melting of ice is changing the surface and interior dynamics of our planet.
