Kalabhairav Jayanti 2025: According to the Hindu calendar, Kalabhairav Jayanti 2025 will be observed on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. As per the Purnimanta Panchang, the festival falls on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Margashirsha. In the Amanta Panchang, it corresponds to the Krishna Paksha of Kartika month.

This sacred occasion marks the appearance of Lord Kalabhairav, a fierce and powerful form of Lord Shiva. The scriptures mention that Lord Bhairava manifested during Madhyahna (midday). However, since the observance involves a night fast, the Ratri Vyapini Ashtami is considered for the Kalabhairav Jayanti Vrat.

In Hindu scriptures, Lord Kalabhairav is revered as the Lord of Time and Death. The word Bhairava comes from the Sanskrit root meaning “the one who destroys fear.” He is known as the protector of devotees and the guardian of temples, ensuring safety from evil forces and negativity.

In the Tantric tradition, Bhairava holds a supreme place in spiritual practice. His worship is believed to eliminate fear, remove sins, and bless the devotee with strength, courage, and spiritual progress. Those who sincerely worship Lord Kalabhairav are said to become fearless, free from illusions, and blessed with inner peace and clarity.

Bhairava Jayanti or Kalabhairav Ashtami celebrates the powerful incarnation of Lord Shiva who appeared to destroy arrogance and restore righteousness. As per the Shiva Rahasya, Lord Bhairava manifested to uphold dharma and protect devotees from destructive forces.

On this day, devotees pray for protection, success, and liberation from fear. Worshipping Lord Kalabhairav is also believed to bring control over one’s mind and time, helping individuals use their energy more wisely.

In many temples, especially in Kashi (Varanasi) and Ujjain, grand Kalabhairav Jayanti celebrations take place with special aartis, night-long bhajans, and offerings of oil lamps and black dogs (considered sacred to Lord Bhairava).

As mentioned in Vrat Parichay and Shiva Rahasya, devotees observe a strict fast on the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in Margashirsha. The day is dedicated entirely to the ritual worship of Lord Bhairava, performed in each Prahara (part of the day).

During the Kalabhairav Puja, devotees offer three Arghya (holy offerings) to the Lord while chanting special mantras.

After completing these offerings, devotees remain awake throughout the night (Bhairav Jagarana) and recite or listen to stories from the Shiva Purana and Shiva Rahasya. By performing this Kalabhairav Jayanti Vrat with faith, one is said to gain spiritual strength, overcome fear, and be freed from all sins.
