The timing of Durga Visarjan is crucial for its proper observance. It is traditionally performed during Aparahna (अपराह्ण) time or Pratahkala (प्रात:काल) while the Dashami Tithi (दशमी तिथि) is prevailing. In most years, the Visarjan Muhurat typically falls in the morning. However, if both Shravana Nakshatra and Dashami Tithi coincide during Aparahna, then the Aparahna Muhurat is preferred over the morning Muhurat.

Aparahna is considered a particularly auspicious time for performing rituals, as it is believed to enhance the effectiveness of the prayers and offerings made during this period.

Many devotees who observe the nine days of Navratri fasting often break their fast after the Durga Visarjan. This makes the timing of the Visarjan not just significant for the immersion of the idol but also for the completion of their fasting rituals. Therefore, devotees often look forward to the Durga Visarjan timing as an important moment to perform Navratri Parana (breaking of the fast).

Durga Visarjan 2024: Significance

Durga Visarjan holds profound cultural and spiritual significance. It marks the end of the festival, symbolising the triumph of good over evil, as represented by Goddess Durga’s victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. The ritual is not merely about the immersion of the idol but also about bidding farewell to the goddess, thanking her for her blessings, and inviting her back the following year.

As the idols are immersed in rivers, lakes, or oceans, it serves as a reminder of the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, echoing the themes of rejuvenation and renewal. The act of immersing the idol is deeply emotional for many, as it signifies letting go and expressing gratitude for the divine blessings received during the festival.

As we approach Durga Visarjan on October 12, 2024, let us reflect on the lessons learned during the festival and the divine energy that Goddess Durga brings into our lives. This day is not only about immersing the idols but also about embracing the spirit of compassion, strength, and resilience that the goddess embodies. May this Durga Visarjan bring peace, prosperity, and positivity into our lives, reminding us of the continuous cycle of devotion and reverence towards the divine.
