What is Amalaki Ekadashi?

Amalaki Ekadashi is observed on the eleventh day of the waxing moon in the month of Phalguna. The day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu and the sacred Amla tree, which is believed to be dear to the Lord.

The term “Amalaki” refers to the Indian gooseberry tree, considered sacred in Hindu tradition. Devotees worship the Amla tree and offer prayers for prosperity, health and spiritual upliftment.

Amalaki Ekadashi 2026 puja vidhi

On this auspicious day, devotees wake up early, take a holy bath and take a vow to observe the Ekadashi Vrat. The idol or image of Lord Vishnu is worshipped with flowers, incense, fruits and Tulsi leaves. Special bhajans and Vishnu Sahasranama are recited.

Many devotees also perform puja near an Amla tree. Lamps are lit and offerings such as fruits and sweets are made. Devotees stay awake at night chanting the Lord’s name and listening to the Ekadashi Vrat Katha.

Ekadashi fasting rules

Fasting on Amalaki Ekadashi is believed to remove sins and grant spiritual merit. Devotees usually avoid grains, rice and certain vegetables. Some observe a strict nirjala fast, while others consume fruits and milk.

When two Ekadashi dates occur, householders generally observe the first Ekadashi. The second Ekadashi is usually followed by saints, widows and those seeking moksha. Devoted followers of Lord Vishnu may observe fasting on both days for greater spiritual benefit.

Amalaki Ekadashi reminds devotees that faith, discipline and devotion always lead to inner strength and blessings. Observing this vrat with dedication can pave the way toward peace and spiritual fulfillment.
