In a startling incident that has taken the internet by storm, a woman in Colombia found an unexpected and alarming surprise in her Amazon delivery. Sofia Serrano, who had ordered an air fryer, was horrified to discover a live, giant lizard inside the package instead.
Serrano shared her bewildering experience on the social media platform X, posting a picture of the soaked lizard clinging to the inside of the box. Her caption read, "We ordered an air fryer through Amazon and it arrived with a companion. I don’t know if it was Amazon’s fault or the carrier’s fault… good morning!”
The incident quickly went viral, with Serrano’s post amassing over 4 million views.
She further wrote: “We already know that it was the responsibility of Amazon because the reptile was put in the bag where the air fryer was packaged. Amazon does not want to take responsibility and the situation is very serious since a foreign animal can generate health implications.”
Pedimos una air fryer por Amazon y nos llegó con un acompañante no sé si fue culpa de Amazon o la transportadora … buenos días! pic.twitter.com/BgYDi4qUev— Sofia Serrano (@sofiaserrano97) July 18, 2024
Social media users were quick to express their shock and amusement, flooding the comment section with a mix of disbelief and humour.
One joked: “The air fryer comes with ingredients for you to prepare your first dish.”
A second, in disbelief about the size of the lizard, asked: “Sorry for the ignorance but what animal is that?”
A third joked: “What a great deal, including an exotic pet!”
This peculiar event has sparked a broader discussion about the quality control and shipping practices of online retailers, particularly in how they handle unexpected scenarios.
A couple in Bengaluru was left horrified after discovering a live cobra inside a package they had ordered online from Amazon weeks ago. The couple, both software engineers, had ordered an Xbox controller, but instead received a venomous snake in the delivery.
In another incident, a Mumbai-based doctor was shocked to find a severed human finger in a Yummo Ice Cream's butterscotch cone ordered by his sister via the grocery delivery app Zepto.
