WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE WEEK IN INDIA FROM 1ST TO 7TH SEPTEMBER

September 01, 2014 / 21:00 IST

Going by the conditions that prevailed earlier, Skymet Meteorology Division in India confirmed on the 21st of August that Monsoon had taken a break. Southwest Monsoon has revived now and good showers are being witnessed across the country.
By the first week of September, withdrawal of Monsoon generally commences from extreme west Rajasthan. It’s the first day of September but there are no signs of withdrawal in the coming few days. As per the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a series of cyclonic circulations or Monsoon systems will form over the Bay of Bengal and travel across Central India to reach northwest India.
The withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon may not commence on the lines of last year (by 18th September) but is surely going to surpass the first week. The coming week as such will receive normal rainfall. A look at the weather forecast for this week.
North India:   The unprecedented dry spell over North India came to end last week. Spells of rain will continue over this week as well. During the first half of the week, rain will be light and scattered but will spread out to cover most parts by the second half. The states of Punjab and Haryana will see widespread rain after a long time. Jammu & Kashmir will also be blessed with probably the last spell of Monsoon rain this year as rains will go scanty across North India by end of the week. A feeble Western Disturbance will persist for at least next 3 days.
Central India: Two systems will form in the Bay of Bengal and dominate weather conditions throughout the week. The first system will travel across Odisha and bring good showers over west Madhya Pradesh, north Maharashtra and Gujarat. Saurashtra and Kutch will observe good showers till mid-week. By Thursday, another Monsoon system will move across Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and reach up to northwestern plains and Jammu & Kashmir.
East & Northeast India: The systems affecting weather over Central India will keep Southwest Monsoon subdued over East and Northeast India for the entire week. Rain will be mainly scanty over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and northeastern states but scattered rain over Bihar and Jharkhand cannot be ruled out. Rain will pick up over this region only by weekend as the systems over Central India move away.
South India: As the weather systems over central parts will track above 25°N Latitude, rain will be scanty over entire South India, barring the Western Ghats. Tamil Nadu will remain mainly dry throughout the week.
