A new Japanese drink promises to satiate hunger for two to three hours by turning into jelly once it reaches the stomach. In Tansan, marketed as a “hunger management” drink, is sold in the form of a can of soda. It, however, reacts with stomach acids to become a heavy jelly reducing hunger pangs.

The brand "In" is popular for its line of fortified jelly packets, while “Tansan” is Japanese for “carbonated”. According to a report in Sora News 24, In Tansan comes in lemon and grapefruit flavours. The first is low in calories while the latter has zero calories. Both are caffeine-free and contain GABA as a stress reliever to help further reduce cravings for snacks, the publication stated.

While most people assumed the brand used psyllium fiber as one of its ingredients for the unique drink, In Tansan has kept the recipe a secret.

Two reporters from Sora News 24 who tried out the drink, said it was difficult to get hold of. One of them, Masami M, wrote: "I was hoping to buy some and try it out for this article but since its release on June 4, it’s been selling out almost instantly every time it pops up on Amazon Japan, which is the only place to get it for now. People really are clamoring to get this stuff."

He added that when he tasted In Tansen, he could immediately tell the difference in its texture as compared to other sodas. "The taste of the lemon flavor was like a very normal carbonated lemon drink with a good level of sweetness and none of that 'weird' sweetness I usually get from diet sodas, but right away I noticed a considerable difference in the texture," Masami said.

He added that after drinking one can of the soda "there was a noticeable reduction in hunger".  "It didn’t go away completely, but it wasn’t as nagging."

Two hours later when the hunger pangs returned, Masami drank another can and this time, the effect was stronger. "My hunger almost completely subsided and my head was even feeling clearer, possibly due to the additional dose of GABA. This effect lasted for about another two hours," he said.
