A video circulating online from Andhra Pradesh has renewed scrutiny of the risks faced by food delivery workers after a Swiggy delivery partner narrowly avoided serious injury while attempting to step off a moving train at Anantapur railway station.
The incident occurred when the delivery agent boarded the Prashanti Express to fulfil a food order placed by a passenger travelling in the first AC coach. Food delivery platforms such as Swiggy and Zomato offer train-based deliveries by allowing passengers to enter their PNR details, enabling orders to be prepared by restaurants at designated stations along the route.
According to the caption accompanying the video, the Prashanti Express stopped at Anantapur for approximately one to two minutes. During that window, the delivery partner entered the first AC coach, which has multiple entry points, and handed over the order to the passenger. However, before he could exit safely, the train began to move.
Footage shows the delivery agent attempting to step down as the train gathers speed, before losing balance and falling onto the platform. The visuals prompted widespread reaction after being shared on Instagram by user Bijay Anand (@hey_bijay), who witnessed the incident and identified the train as Prashanti Express (18464).
The caption accompanying the post read: “This is extremely disturbing. No delivery is worth a human life.”
According to details shared alongside the video, the delivery partner had his motorcycle and delivery bag waiting outside the station and had other orders pending. As the train began to depart, he attempted to disembark quickly and fell heavily on the platform.
Several users criticised railway operations and delivery policies. One comment read, “Trains in India tolerate hour-long delays yet deny a five-minute halt at Tier-3 stations, a stark contradiction in operational priorities.”
Another wrote, “This really shows the incredible risks gig workers take for our everyday convenience. That Swiggy delivery person was under so much pressure from a tight timeline that he took a dangerous chance. It makes you appreciate the risks behind a simple delivery.”
A user reprimanded Swiggy and wrote, "STOP THIS NOW".
Others called for regulatory intervention. “This is terrifying and unacceptable. No delivery is worth a human life. Clear accountability is needed—from the platform, the passenger, and the railway authorities. Strict rules must stop deliveries on moving trains before someone gets killed,” one comment stated.
Additional comments echoed concern for the delivery agent’s wellbeing. “This is a very serious safety issue. Customers should be clearly informed to collect their food from the train door/platform,” one user wrote. Another added, “So disturbing, hope he is okay,” while a third commented, “Please compensate the man for the damages he has received.”
Following the circulation of the video, Swiggy issued a response addressing the incident. In a statement, the company said, “Hi there, we’ve looked into the incident and are relieved to confirm that the delivery partner is safe, unharmed, and did not face any penalty from authorities.”
