Lalit Modi will contest the upcoming Rajasthan Cricket Association elections as the former IPL Chief filed nomination papers through his lawyers in Jaipur on Monday afternoon, confirmed CNN-IBN.

Last week, Modi's legal counsel Mehmood Abdi confirmed that the former IPL commissioner will fight the polls. Abdi said that the former RCA President will contest for the top post once again, thereby throwing a gauntlet at the BCCI, who has banned him for life in all cricket matters in India.

"He is all set to take part in the RCA elections, which would be held on 19th December. He is willing to challenge the BCCI who has banned him for life," Abdi said.

However, a livid BCCI has shot off a letter to incumbent RCA President CP Joshi, who has decided against contesting the polls. "We find that the Nagaur Cricket Association has allowed Lalit Modi as President. We wish to remind you that as per the BCCI rules and regulations, all the members, including RCA, are bound to follow the decision taken and directives issued in the interest of BCCI, especially those related to disciplinary proceedings," the letter from BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel stated.

"The RCA stands to lose its rights and privileges as BCCI member if the expelled administrator of BCCI is allowed to remain an office-bearer of one of your district units. Therefore, kindly comply to BCCI directives and report the same to us," it added.

Modi's loyalists met in Jaipur last Monday and claimed the presence of 19 district units. The shift in power in the state of Rajasthan has resulted in many of CP Joshi's loyalists deserting him.
