Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi recently hosted a pre-birthday celebration for former businessman Vijay Mallya at his residence in London. The gathering was attended by several guests, including entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.
International photographer Jim Rydell shared details of the event on social media, thanking Lalit Modi for hosting what he described as a pre-70th birthday party in Mallya's honour. He also posted a photograph showing Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya posing together. Responding to the post, Lalit Modi thanked attendees for joining the celebration at his home, a message that was later reposted by Mallya.
Rydell also shared the invitation card for the event on Instagram. The invite described the occasion as an evening hosted by Rima and Lalit Modi in honour of their friend Vijay Mallya, celebrating him as the "King of Good Times". The event took place on December 16 at Belgrave Square in London.
But X (erstwhile Twitter) was not impressed with the birthday bash pic. Commenting on Lalit Modi’s repost, many netizens lamented on India’s two biggest scamsters were living a luxury life in London. An X user named Kavita termed them ‘Atapi-vatapi’ while another user quipped, ‘thank you for doing fraud and running away.’ Another netizen Govind Sharma posted, “We saw bhagoda meet up before gta6.”
Earlier this month, Lalit Modi had hosted his own birthday celebrations at an upscale club in London. To mark his 63rd birthday, the former IPL chairman organised a party at the Maddox Club in the Mayfair area.
Sharing visuals from the event on social media, Modi described it as a memorable celebration with friends and family and thanked his partner Rima for organising the gathering. Vijay Mallya was among those who attended the party.
Mallya, who was born in 1955, celebrates his birthday on December 18.
