A constable from the railway police force (RPF) recently saved a passenger stuck between a moving train and the platform after he tried to board the moving train, slipped, and fell onto the tracks. The incident happened on April 28 at Uttarakhand's Laksar railway station. The constable has been identified as Uma and a CCTV footage of the incident is now doing rounds on social media.

According to Uma, she was guarding her post at the station when the Kolkata-Jammu Tai Express arrived and while the train was in motion, a man tried to board it, holding on to the railing with one hand while carrying a bag of food in the other.

As the man fell onto the tracks, the RPF constable rushed to him and carefully guarded the man's head making him lean away from the moving train and towards the platform so that he did not get hurt. She also helped him keep still and until the train could make an emergency stop.

When the train halted, Uma and other officers pulled the man onto the platform. He was unhurt. The RPF officers then helped him board the train safely.

A spokesman from the Uttarakhand Police said: "At Laksar railway station, a passenger of Kolkata-Jammu Tawi Express started boarding the moving train after taking food items from the railway station. During this, he slipped and got stuck between the train and the platform. Female constable Uma saved by pulling him out safely." The passenger did not have serious injuries, they added.

In a related incident, on Monday, a man who was trying to board a moving train at West Bengal's Asansol station slipped from the footboard and was about to be dragged along with the train when two alert RPF officers rescued him.

"Never risk your life by boarding/alighting a moving train," the official handle of the RPF commented while sharing the video of the incident.
