A viral video showed kid locking herself inside to use mobile phone without interruption.

A disturbing video circulating on social media has reignited concerns over mobile phone addiction among children, after a young girl reportedly locked herself inside a room for several hours just to use her phone without interruption.

According to the video, the incident unfolded when the child refused to open the door despite repeated calls from her family. As panic set in and there was no response from inside, the family took the extreme step of breaking a portion of the wall to check on her safety. What they found shocked many online, the girl was inside the room, calmly scrolling on her mobile phone, having locked the door so no one could stop her from using it.

Take a look the video

The video quickly went viral, triggering intense discussion among parents and caregivers. Many users shared the clip as a warning, highlighting how excessive screen time and unchecked phone use can spiral into serious behavioural issues at a very young age.

Several social media users expressed concern over the long-term impact of such addiction. One user commented that the incident was “deeply sad” and warned that early exposure and dependency on phones could lead to serious mental and developmental problems, urging parents to actively monitor content and strictly limit screen time.

Others placed responsibility squarely on adults. One comment pointed out that children are often introduced to smartphones for parental convenience, adding that addiction is an unintended consequence that parents must take accountability for.

However, not everyone agreed with assigning blame. Another widely shared comment argued that the situation was more complex, saying the child’s behaviour reflected deeper issues, possibly strict rules, lack of communication, or emotional needs. The user noted that the family breaking a wall showed fear, not neglect, and suggested the real question should be why the child felt she had to isolate herself just to use a phone.

Some parents also highlighted the practical challenges of raising children in today’s digital environment. One user said that while many parents try to regulate screen time, controlling it isn’t always easy due to tantrums, peer pressure, and the lack of a strong support system, especially in India.
