A South Korean vlogger, who was filming her experiences in India, was harassed on camera in Pune by a local recently.
Kelly, a YouTuber with 1.68 lakh subscribers, was exploring the streets of Pune when a man put his arm around her neck.
“Wherever you travel, you can meet bad people. This is everywhere. So please don’t justice (judge) every Indian. In my experience, India is such a good place to live,” she says in the beginning of the 23-minute video which was uploaded a week ago.
Kelly began her vlog with her walking the streets of Pune, commenting how clean and empty a particular stretch was. She then entered an exhibition, going to different stalls and interacting with the shopkeepers.
After this, she spotted a tender cocounut water seller from whom she bought a coconut. Sipping the tender coconut water, as she was walking down a street, a couple of men interacted with her, with one of them suddenly putting his arm round her neck.
Kelly is taken by surprise and screams though she continues to have a smile on her face.
“I had to run away,” she says as she walks away from the shops.
“Bye bye. Namaste,” she tells the men.
“Wow. They really like to hug. I don’t know why. Let’s go, let’s run away,” she says after which discards the coconut in a carboard garbage bin, concluding the vlog.
A number of Indians commented on the video, which has garnered over 8.7 lakh views, apologising for the harassment she faced.
This is not the first time foreign vloggers have been harassed in India. In April, a Korean blogger, filming herself on a tour in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, was harassed, followed and flashed at by a man, who was later arrested.
Last December, another Korean blogger was harassed and followed by a few men in the streets of Mumbai. They were later arrested.
