Namita Thapar, the executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, today held a Reddit AMA and politely shut down trolls who credited her success only to generational wealth.
Besides being a Shark Tank India investor and the executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Namita Thapar is also the founder of Thapar Entrepreneur Academy. None of that has stopped trolls from attacking her with accusations that she owes her success and wealth to the pharmaceutical company founded by her father, Satish Mehta.
During Thapar’s Reddit AMA today (AMA = Ask Me Anything, for those who may not know), a Reddit user asked her where she would be without “daddy’s money.” Thapar responded politely but firmly, listing all her credentials.
“I am a CA (first attempt)...MBA ...fantastic credentials ...I’m sure I would do just fine even without daddys money my friend!” she wrote.

Several other Reddit users also disparaged Thapar with similar claims, asking how she could use the tag of an “entrepreneur” when she only joined the business launched by her father.
“You didn’t build your own business so how do you give advice to others building their OWN business?” asked one person.
“Scaling a family business requires an entrepreneurial mindset too,” Thapar responded.

Thapar also responded to accusations that she does not invest in businesses that she does not have expertise in.
“Check out my 18 investments in Season 1 and 16 in Season 2 (so far)...they are all diverse industries....the business has to excite me and i have the humility to back out where I feel I can’t add value,” she wrote. “But yes I am a 'selective' investor… that’s my unapologetic style.”
